Routine well-woman exams are an essential part of your overall health care. At Suburban Women’s Specialists in Johns Creek, Georgia, your annual visit includes a pelvic exam, breast exam, and Pap smear to evaluate your reproductive health. To make an appointment at this all-women practice featuring OB/GYNs Dr. Betty Anthony and Dr. Suiza Chua, call the office or book online.
During a comprehensive well-woman visit, the doctors at Suburban Women’s Specialists evaluate all aspects of your reproductive health. Your OB/GYN performs a pelvic exam, which involves examination of your vagina, vulva, uterus, cervix, ovaries, and fallopian tubes. In addition, she does a manual breast exam to feel for any abnormalities. A well-woman exam can be slightly uncomfortable, but shouldn’t be painful.
You’ll also have a Pap smear to check for irregular cells and determine if you’re at risk for cervical cancer.
A well-woman visit is a time to discuss any concerns you may have. These may include:
Use the well-woman exam as a time to build a solid, honest relationship with Dr. Anthony or Dr. Chua. This partnership helps you receive exceptional healthcare that’s centered on your personal needs. Expect to discuss lifestyle choices that can affect your reproductive and overall health, including diet, exercise, smoking, alcohol consumption, and sexual practices.
You undergo a routine check of your blood pressure, a urine check, and a Pap smear during the well-woman exam. To perform a Pap smear, which is quick and pain-free, Dr. Chua or Dr. Anthony takes a small sampling of cells from your cervix using a swab. These cells are then sent to a lab for analysis.
The team at Suburban Women’s Specialists also provides in-office blood tests at your request. The doctors may recommend a mammogram for women older than age 40, and it’s performed at a separate facility.
Starting at age 21, plan on having a well-woman exam once each year. A first well-woman exam in your midteens is also recommended. This initial visit may not include a pelvic exam, but it helps establish a rapport with Dr. Chua and Dr. Anthony. The first exam also provides an opportunity for a teen girl to discuss concerns about menstruation, sex, and sexually transmitted diseases.
